The Facts

According to an Associated Press article by John Moreno Gonzales on November 16 and the UNITY non-profit organization:

• The number of homeless have nearly doubled from 6,300 to over 12,000
• Median rent price has increased by approximately 65%, and public housing has not been reopened
• More than 30% of the residents in the Homeless Pride community have jobs
• Of the 200,000 homes destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, 41,000 of them were affordable rental units
